The Master Mooring range of mooring springs really does live up to its reputation. With models suitable for boats from just 7 tonnes to the big boys weighing in at 900 tonnes, there is a mooring spring suitable for practically any yachtsman.
We at Boatcare are confident in recommending Douglas Marine’s mooring springs. Through our experience managing the Portomaso Marina, we have used many brands over the years. The Master Mooring range has consistently performed best during the harshest North-Easterly storms.
The idea behind mooring springs is simple. When a boat is securely moored, the elasticity of the mooring line ropes allows enough play to ensure that the boat is not damaged and the cleats not pulled off. This can change when a relatively larger wake from a passing ship hits, or during storms which could put greater strain on the lines and, of course, onto the cleats they are attached to.
Any mooring spring is designed to absorb those shocks, reducing the potential for damage and, at the same time, making the boat more comfortable. Douglas Marine’s Master Mooring range do this using high quality stainless steel and special elastomers that keep their properties in temperatures from as low as -40°C to 120°C. What’s more, it has a rated life of 400,000 full compression cycles.
Besides the Master Mooring range, Douglas Marine also produces all-stainless steel mooring springs. There is also a silenced version which uses nylon heads and a nylon stopper to minimize the noise produced when the spring is compressed.
